Living with hemophilia leads to a life calling in Pharmacy
As a first-generation hemophiliac, Stephen and his parents were thrown into a world of uncertainties. With no knowledge of how to navigate through this diagnosis, the family relied heavily on their local hemophilia treatment center and community to help guide them.
After years of living with the challenges of hemophilia, it became clear that Stephen wanted to make a career helping others like him. Pharmacy became his life calling, which allowed him to help affected patients, drive positive health care outcomes, and give back to the community.
Stephen completed his Doctorate in Pharmacy, finishing the Comprehensive Compounding Course through PCCA, as well as completing Power-Pak CE’s in Opioid Analgesic Therapy Certificate Program for Pharmacists and Building Skills in Opioid Analgesic Therapy. And with 40 years of experience living with hemophilia, Stephen has been able to see how treatment regimens have changed and new therapies are available.
With his professional and personal life experience, Stephen is uniquely positioned to serve the community he cares so much about. Bringing along his experience being a patient for over 40 years allows for a more empathetic and compassionate mindset for treating patients with better understanding of the specific nuances that affect the hemophiliac community.

Josh Hawkins was diagnosed with severe hemophilia B as an infant in 1980 when the potential for an addition condition (HIV, HEP B, etc.) through the necessary treatments was at an all-time high. Josh’s long experience as a member of the hemophilia community, living with the unique needs and challenges that hemophilia leaves on a person and their family, created the vision for Factor Care Specialty Pharmacy. Josh has spent decades serving the hemophilia community, and his passion to serve and partner with patients and families continues guiding Factor Care in all we do.
